The Spiritual Potential of Personality as a Factor in Forming Trust and Overcoming Codependency in the Modern Socio-Cultural Space

Abstract

The article provides a theoretical and psychological analysis of the spiritual potential of personality as an important resource for the formation of interpersonal trust in the context of contemporary socio-cultural transformations. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing uncertainty of the social environment, identity crises, and the weakening of trust in interpersonal and social relations. The paper examines the role of spiritual development in an individual’s ability to cope with intolerance to uncertainty and to reconsider social expectations and life meanings. Particular attention is given to the phenomenon of codependency, interpreted as a destructive type of interpersonal relationship associated with distorted trust mechanisms and the violation of personal boundaries. It is substantiated that the activation of internal mechanisms of transcendence, reflection, and decentration contributes to overcoming crisis experiences, developing responsible attitudes toward social interaction, and strengthening interpersonal trust. The study shows that the spiritual potential of personality is closely related to value orientations, empathy, acceptance of uncertainty, and readiness for constructive interaction within society. It is concluded that the development of spiritual potential is an important factor in strengthening trust both in interpersonal relationships and in social institutions, while also promoting civic responsibility. Further research should focus on the psychological mechanisms of developing spiritual potential and its role in overcoming personal crisis states.
